Welcome and thanks for visiting StarBooks Book Club's website! This is the home of all the information you could ever want or need about PRHS's student-run book club!
This year marks the third year that we've had the book club. However, this year, we are happy to say, it has finally become an official club at PRHS, and (now) has an official website! So, with that said, the website should be able to answer all of your questions regarding the book club. To browse, you can navigate using the menu to the left. When you click on a topic you would like to explore, the page's content will appear in this frame. If, at any time, you wish to return to this page, you can click on "Home," which is located at the top of the menu.
Below, you will find news and updates that have been posted by me.
If you still have any unanswered questions or encounter problems with the website, please feel free to contact us (using the contact page) or by visiting Mrs. Harland in the library!

Thanks so much for all of your support!

May Meeting & Discussion

Monday, May 5 // 7:40 PM
The April meeting discussing Candy did not go as well as planned because there were many other activities going on at PRHS, but I have great hope for my LAST meeting as the book club's president and web designer. I hope all our members will be able to attend as it will be a big celebration!

The May book is Freak Show. You can find more information on the May page.

As for the next two years, my sister, Angela, who has been a committed book club member, will be taking over the reins and updating the website as well as organizing all the meetings.

I hope to see you all at the big celebration next week!!! Thanks for helping support all the work we've put into the book club!!

Thursday, April 10 // 1:00 PM
Alright, so a week from today we will be discussing Candy by Kevin Brooks. There's still some time to read it. If you're planning on getting it from the library, though, be sure to get in there ASAP because they've been getting checked out constantly.

So I believe that is all. This is my second to last meeting, so I really hope to see a good outcome. At the last meeting, I will be turning the reins over to my sister, Angela! So if you have any special requests for next year, be sure to see her about them. See you next week!

Tuesday, March 11 // 7:22 PM
Ok! Happy March! Hopefully we'll soon be seeing some proof that spring is actually going to come this year...

As for the book club, the King Dork meeting, unfortunately, did not have a very good turnout most likely due to so many other things that have been going on at PRHS. I have hope that the March meeting will go much better, though. The book is Glass by Ellen Hopkins, the sequel to Crank. There are plenty of copies available at the library. Also, since March is National Poetry Month, I have decided to add a poem to the book. It is called Ode to Crank and Mrs. Harland can give you a copy!

So, for more info about the book or the meeting, visit the March Meeting page. Hope to see you at the meeting on March 20!

Tuesday, February 5 // 5:15 PM
Alright, sorry for the break between updates. The January meeting went well and everyone liked Life as We Knew It. Our next meeting is Thursday, February 21. You can find more information about the book on the February page. I will be soon adding the March page too! Hope to see you on February 21st!!

Saturday, December 29 // 10:27 PM
As you know, we had a snow day.. so. We're just going to combine the January and December meetings. You can find more info about the January meeting on the January discussion page, obviously. I'm not completely sure about the yearbook photo so keep listening to the morning announcements! Even though the links are no longer available from the webpage, please remember that both MySpace and Facebook have groups set up just for StarBooks Book Club discussions. You can always find information there too, so be sure to join either or both groups! Happy New Year to everyone!

Wednesday, December 19 // 10:15 AM
Okay, so the December Book Club meeting for the 13th was cancelled last week due to weather conditions. So, we rescheduled the meeting for tomorrow, December 20. It will still be at 2:30 PM in the library. Our yearbook photo will be taken at break on the 20th in the library so please be there if you want to be in the photo. If there is a snow day, the meeting will most likely be combined with the January meeting. As for the yearbook photo, listen to announcements to find out when the rescheduled photo shoot will be! =) Hope to see you tomorrrow!

Thursday, December 6 // 1:25 PM
Some exciting news! For all the Twilight fans out there, Stephenie Meyer has released the first chapter of her book, Midnight Sun. You can find the link on the Twilight page under the Members section on the menu! =) Also, I will be posting the next couple books very soon. Remember the December meeting for Just Listen by Sarah Dessen is a week from today (Thursday, December 13)! Hope to see you there!

Wednesday, November 28 // 10:08 AM
Thanks to everyone who attended the November meeting. Unfortunately, there haven't been as many students attending as initially expected, but we hope that number improves over the year. You can check out the date and book for the December meeting by clicking the December meeting link above. At the meeting we did discuss possible books for March. Since March is National Poetry Month, we will have a packet of poetry written by teenagers in addition to Glass by Ellen Hopkins. If you would like me to include your own poetry in the packet, you can send it to me by e-mail, through the form on the website or give a copy to Mrs. Harland or me in person. They can be submitted as "anonymous author." I'll add January, February and March pages soon! Hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving!

Saturday, November 3 // 2:37 PM
Happy November! I added a link to nominate books for the 2009 NH Flume Award above. If your book is chosen, we could end up reading it next year, so make sure you enter the books you would like others to enjoy.
Remember that our November meeting is not too far away. In addition to the chosen November book, we will be discussing Fahrenheit 451 as well. It's okay if you haven't read both.. you are still more than welcome to attend!
At the meeting, I will also be mentioning some important information about April's meeting and some book probablities for May. So, if you want your voice heard, I hope to see you there! Remember I am also available through e-mail so feel free to tell me there as well! =) See you on November 15!

Wednesday, October 24 // 3:28 PM
I apologize a million times over for completely spacing the Big Read Book Club meeting on Tuesday and saying that it was a week from our meeting, which was obviously not true. However, I thought that since many members might not have had the opportunity to finish the book anyways, it might be a better idea to have a discussion about Fahrenheit 451 as well at the November meeting so it will give more students the opportunity to read it in its entirety. We will also be discussing the probability of showing the movie after school in pieces (2 to 3 days consecutively). So, I apologize once again. If any of you did attend, thank you very much for making up for my mistake. =)

Saturday, October 20 // 2:20 PM
Thanks so much to everyone who attended the October book discussion on Thursday! I know many of you were not able to make it, but hopefully you'll be able to come to the November discussion!
Just to remind everyone, Pease is having their "Big Read" Book Club meeting on Thursday, October 23 at 7 PM on the lower level of the library. The book discussion will focus on Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. We're trying to get as many PRHS book club members as we can to attend. If you are able to, the book can be checked out from the PRHS library and there is also a reading guide available if you would like a copy.
The PRHS library also has a copy of the movie. We were talking about showing it after school to book club members and all other interested teachers and students. If you are in favor of this idea, please let Mrs. Harland or me know what day and time would be best for you. (Preferably between the end of October and the middle of November).
If you haven't already noticed, I have successfully put music back on the website! If you didn't notice, it's the small rectangle below the layout. You just need to click on it twice and it willl start playing. You can also press the next or back buttons to listen to a different song.
I will add our October book to the archives and maybe get to adding some new and/or future releases.
Have a nice weekend everyone!

Friday, October 12 // 8:44 PM
All the files are now working and downloadable! Music is still on the way! Have a nice weekend. Hope to see you all next Thursday!

Tuesday, October 9 // 1:49 PM
Happy October (even though it's a little late)! I am still working on the files, but they should be functioning normally somewhat soon. Also, I deleted our old music player because the website I used was deleting my files. So, we'll have a much better music player hopefully soon. We were a little disappointed in the turnout for the community service opportunities, but it might have been better later in the year. Please make sure you check out the "Big Read" book club event that will be taking place at Pease on October 23. We hope to get StarBooks members involved there. Also, our October meeting is coming up on Thursday, October 18. For more information about the book, time, and location, click the link above. Hope to see you at our next meeting!

Tuesday, September 25 // 7:34 PM
Alright! I fixed all the pages that weren't working after the move. I also had to upload the music AGAIN because most songs, for some reason, were deleted. Let's hope that doesn't happen again.

I updated the information sheet that was handed out at the first meeting. Everyone that signed up for information at our Join Week table should receive that sheet and a questionnaire tomorrow. If you don't have it, go to the library and ask Mrs. Harland. She has some extra copies. All three sheets can also be downloaded on the Files & Downloads Page.

Emily and I were able to finish our bulletin board in the back of the library today. So.. when in doubt, you can add the bulletin board to your many other sources of book club information!

I am planning on adding a few more pages to the menu, but I might not get them all done tonight. Hopefully I'll have the link on the PRHS Library website back up soon.

Friday, September 21 // 9:08 PM
Join week was very successful for us. Thanks to all who signed up and helped man the table during the week! Everyone who signed up will be called to the library (most likely during break) on Monday, Sept 24 to receive more information about the book club as well as a questionnaire. Existing members will also receive the questionnaire so that I will have contact information for as many members as possible.

The domain name is not cooperating with us.. and I honestly do not believe that it is going to if we are to use a free domain host. So.. I think we will most likely be opening with a subdomain account. If anyone knows someone who would be willing to sponsor the book club or donate money so that we can be hosted, please mention it to them. We would be more than willing to mention their donation or sponsorship on the website (which would mean some advertising for businesses). It would be very nice to be hosted and have our own .com name afterall.

So.. I'm going to do my best to fix all the pages so that we can open the subdomain soon. Thanks again for all the hard work during Homecoming Week!

Wednesday, September 12 // 3:06 PM
Sorry about the mayhem with the site being down. Believe me.. it made all of us mad (both the crazy and the angry way). Soo.. in order to keep it from happening again, a very generous Book Club mother has volunteered to donate the money for us to have our website hosted so that we can get our own domain name. Needless to say, I am very excited! We should be making the move fairly soon. So, if you were planning on linking us, wait until after so you won't have to change the address again. We'll also change the redirect link on the library page. And.. (let's hope) this will be the last move we'll have to make! =) I did save EVERYTHING, though, so we don't have to worry about losing anything now. Thank goodness!

Monday, September 10 // 5:30 PM
Thanks to all who attended the meeting today! It was nice to see some new faces! I tried making a new "Files" page.. but the handout I gave out today won't download for some reason. I'm pretty sure I know why.. so I'll do my best to fix it. I also should be able to make a new link today! If I get to it, I'll make a page for it. If you're interested in helping us "man" our Join Week table, please fill out the form on the join week page and I'll add you to the schedule! If you aren't sure if you'll be able to, just send the form and, if you end up not being able to, it's perfectly fine.
Thanks!

Sunday, September 9 // 12:00 PM
Okay.. I fixed the contact page! I also added three more pages: one for members under Prologue, one for the December book under Books and Meetings, and another with a new Tagboard on it (AKA comment box) under the Epilogue! Alrighty. That's all for me.. I'll try to add some more pages sometime this week. I will also make a link so you can link to us and a new releases page.

Sunday, September 9 // 2:30 AM
Yea, I'm STILL working on the website.. I know the "Contact Us" page isn't working yet. I did make it, but I think I lost it while trying to make everything. I'll try to get it up ASAP. I also added some new music. I know it doesn't have any words, but music is music. Sweet Dreams.

Saturday, September 8 // 7:00 PM
Well, today is the GRAND OPENING of the website! I'm sorry that there isn't much of a variety on the menu, but I will be adding much more as time goes on!
